The Menards NHRA Nationals had the usual line-up of top fuel and funny car burning nitro but they weren't the only nitro burners on the property. The top alcohol classes with both dragsters and funny cars were in competition. This is the first national event since the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways. Coming into the event, Doug Gordon in funny car is the national points leader. In the dragsters it is Tony Stewart leading the national points standings.
