This was probably on of the most brutal and mean looking Dodge Challengers at the track that day. The Challenger was Dodge’s response to the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro…even though it wasn’t really a pony car. The first generation Dodge Challengers were made from 1970 to 1974, and are considered the best looking generation. They were available with a multitude of engines ranging from a 198 cu. In. slant 6 all the way to the giant 440 six pack producing almost 400hp factory., but the 426 hemi produced more power. The most collectible Challengers are the 1971 models with performance engines, but 1970 was considered by many to be the best year. That is until the introduction of the current Hellcat. National Trail Raceway is an NHRA member track that began life back in 1964. The complex sits on 320 acres, and back when it was built it was the fifth largest track of its kind in the united states. It plays host to a number of very popular events every year, some of them being Night of Thunder, the Mopar Nationals, Import Face-Off, and Jegs ET Series.
