Who Started RPM Army?
Hey everyone! I’m Kyle. I’m a 34 year old gearhead who has oil flowing through my veins. I was raised by a pair of muscle car loving parents who still talk about their cars to this day.
I’m a graduate of UNOH, with an A.A.S. in Automotive Technology and a B.S. from OSU. I grew up, like many kids around the same time playing racing games on N64 & Playstation (Gran Tourismo FTW). I also had my share of go karts and dirt bikes as a kid as well. When I got older I eventually switched into car projects in my free time. I also worked as an Aircraft Hydraulics Technician in the Air National Guard, and in a metal fabrication shop for about a decade.
Over the years I sank further into car culture and motorsports. I had, and still have a bunch of fun projects that I’ve worked on when the cameras were turned off. Sampler- 1979 LS Swapped K10, 1972 Pro Touring Pontiac LeMans (you can eventually check out the Projects section for a list of past and current toys)
What is RPM Army?
In short? It’s a YouTube channel for most people, but there is an asterisk. RPM Army is growing in three different directions right now. It still focused primarily on being a source for exciting original motorsports content, but it’s also become a platform for other voices and a place to get various services.
With that direction, in 2020 RPM Army added in 8 featured partners, who are fellow creators in the same space. The website has become a distribution platform for all their content to help them reach more viewers, as well as a proprietary app that sends their content to other social media pages across the web.
RPM Army recently has also started offering handy services for racers and gearheads. If you need a custom vinyl decal cut, a photo print from an event, some video editing done…we do it. We have even done some 3d prototyping.
When was RPM Army started?
It’s a funny story. I can remember the first time I thought about recording videos. It was in high school and a bunch of us punks were skateboarding. I had a basic point and shoot digital camera and was playing with the video settings when one of my friends hopped in his truck and started doing a burnout. I have no idea what ever happened to that video file…but that wasn’t the real start.
I guess you could say the unofficial start was in 2009 when I uploaded a webcam video recorded to a laptop of me playing around in my 2007 Civic Si. (Which I still daily drive to this day). Officially In 2012 I started uploading some of the typical crappy quality videos you would expect from anyone carrying a point and shoot, but one of them still regularly performs well for some reason. LOL
Over the years It’s stopped and started up again with varying success, but at the end of 2019 I really started gearing RPM Army up for a full run. It’s been regularly uploading, growing, and evolving ever since.
